La Luxe Lucerna

La Luxe Lucerna

Grace, the founder and maker behind La Luxe Lucerna, has been making candles since elementary school. She grew up and as many do, felt pressure to do "something" with her life. She forgot her passion for creating, and followed what seemed like the "right path". Luckily, she found her passion again and La Luxe Lucerna was born.

Looking for unique favours to provide at their wedding, Grace and Eddy made their own custom candles. The idea caught on, and soon took off. Wanting to provide a cleaner, healthier candle to burn at home, they created their own line.

Megan Keogh of Little Button Club

Megan Keogh of Little Button Club

Hello! My name is Megan and I am the creator behind Little Button Club.

I've always been artistic and loved making things. When I was younger I would make all of my gifts for Christmas, and to this day I still create most of my gifts. As a kid it was of course because I couldn't afford to buy gifts for my parents, but now I see it as a chance to show my family and friends how much they mean to me by spending time creating something for them by hand. My Dad sketches, my Mom knits, and my sister is a photographer— in other words, I come from a pretty talented & supportive family.

LEE ANN GARRETT OF FRESH TWIST

LEE ANN GARRETT OF FRESH TWIST

Ten years ago I created my first designs, a line of hand knit, newborn hats based on fruit, vegetable and sports themes. The hats were a resounding success and as word-of-mouth spread so did demand. My designs now include knit baby accessories, tea cosies and women's felt hats. These are available at juried craft shows, specialty boutiques, online and now The Nooks Danforth!

I was reluctant at first to turn my knitting hobby into a business but finally decided to take it to the next level. I quit my day job, and after several years I now run my own business, Fresh Twist.

JILL AND TESSA OF A PEACE OF THE BEACH

JILL AND TESSA OF A PEACE OF THE BEACH

Hi I’m Jill, the mom part of the mother-daughter team that is A Peace of the Beach. My daughter Tessa and I each play different roles in our partnership. I find I’m the creative workhorse, as I go on daily adventures down to the lakeshore to gather driftwood. The best days to gather driftwood are right after the biggest storms, which draw a new wave of pieces from Lake Ontario. Tessa’s role is more focused on the artistic and technical input regarding the quality of the tables.

NOOKFEST MAKER PROFILES // ASJA OF AZATORIUM

NOOKFEST MAKER PROFILES // ASJA OF AZATORIUM

I learned how to cross stitch at an early age of about six, explained to me by my amazing grandma. A few years ago I decided to pick it up again to make a birthday present for a friend and haven’t stopped since. It is a process driven by nostalgia and this hunger to make the old craft new again. My goal is to make the cross stitch art modern and fun again!

CATHERINE OF SASKATCHCUSHION

CATHERINE OF SASKATCHCUSHION

In 2014 I was looking for something to do that would allow me to be a stay-at-home parent after my second child was born. I originally had the idea to make Saskatchewan-shaped pillows a year earlier, but life has a habit of getting in the way so I just put it on the back burner.

As I was nearing the end of my pregnancy I realized that it was now or never, so I bought an embroidery machine from Kijiji, sketched out some maps, designed some labels and found a place to have my fabric printed. I was 36 weeks pregnant when I made my first cushion.
It's nearly 2 years later and I have sold over 1500 cushions!
